Marking our 8-year milestone, the San Pedro International Film Festival was founded to celebrate the diverse culture and historical Port community, and highlight San Pedro’s 100 years as a film and TV production destination.
SPIFFest offers 15 categories for independent film, documentaries and shorts, that includes global perspectives on LGBT, enviornment, animal rights to music video, webisodes, TV pilots and San Pedro’s literary resident, the immoral Charles Bukowski.

(Documentary) “Eliades Ochoa: From Cuba to the World”, Friday October 4, 2019 – 7:00 pm
He became known the world over in the late 90s as an original member of legendary Cuban band Buena Vista Social Club, but Eliades Ochoa’s passion for his country’s musical heritage led him to pursue a life dedicated to music much earlier than that: He began by playing his guitar in the streets of Eastern Cuba, then joined a slew of folk groups, until finally the success of Buena Vista Social Club came along. Ocean & Animal Documentary (Shorts Free Screening), Sunday, October 6, 2019 – 3:00 pm Film shorts that center around the sea and its wonderful creatures screen for free at Cabrillo Marine Aquarium.
Robert Scheer: Above The Fold, Sunday, October 6, 2019 – 5:00 pm
Take a rewind through Scheer’s journalistic and activist career; the issues he championed, wars he opposed and the powerful political leaders he challenge. Scheer, who at 83 teaches at USC, is editor in Chief of Truthdig.com and does a weekly podcast, “Scheer Intelligence” for KCRW. Venue is Warner Grand Theatre. tickets
