Kick the Keg Fundraiser at Select Beer Store: Friday, January 13, 2017 – 5:00 PM Select Beer Store donates all sales from their kick the keg event Firday night to TrinityKids Care Hospice. Keg to be kicked and tapped is from Sierra Nevada Brewing’s Beer Camp Series, a gigantic beer brewing collaborative adventure where Sierra brews beers with a mess of other county-wide brewers. Very Cinematic Narrative Opening Reception: Friday, January 13, 2017 – 6:00 – 9:00 PM The City of Manhattan Beach Cultural Arts Division invites the public to the opening reception of Very Cinematic Narrative, an exhibition of kinetic sculptures by William Sandell and oil paintings by Cynda Valle. The opening reception will be held on Friday, January 13, 2017 from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at the Manhattan Beach Art Center (MBAC), located at 1560 Manhattan Beach Boulevard, Manhattan Beach, CA 90266. Telescopes & Beer at Cosmic Brewery: Friday, January 13, 2017 – 8:00 PM Hoist a cold beverage and then ponder the celestial world above us at Cosmic Brewery when they host Telescopes & Beer event Friday night. There will be professional astronomers on-hand with meteorites, binoculars, laser pointers that can answer space questions, along with the telescopes too. Freedom Writers – Stories From an Undeclared War: Friday, January 13, 2017 – 8:00 PM – 10:00 PM Stories from an Undeclared War is a powerful documentary that tells the story of 150 at-risk Long Beach students who were once considered unteachable. Inspired by teacher Erin Gruwell and the writings of Anne Frank, the students discover a new way to express themselves. E.T. & CHILLI Surfboards Surf Series Contest: Saturday, January 14, 2017 – 7:00 AM The South Bay Boardriders Club host their second live surf contest of the 2016-2017 season at 26th Street in Manhattan Beach this Saturday early in the morning. The contest will be sponsored by E.T. Surf Shop, CHILLI Surfboards and others. All ages and skill levels are welcome to participate and compete in various divisions like Micro Groms (under 9), Legends (over 50), a longboard division, and many others. more info

Benjamin Franklin’s Electric Birthday Celebration: Saturday, January 14, 2017 – 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM Come celebrate the birthday of Ben Franklin at International Printing Museum in Carson. Hellride at The Standing Room: Saturday, January 14, 2017 – 9:00 PM Raw power and high-strung jazz meet for a moment Saturday night at The Standing Room in Hermosa Beach when Hellride (the LA band) perform live.
