Things To Do In Redondo Beach
Whether you're visiting in the heart of summer or in the mild California winter, there's always something to do in Redondo Beach. Whale watching, fishing, sailing, surfing, jetskiing and many more ocean activities are offered, as well as nearby hiking, shopping and bike riding.
If you have one day in Redondo Beach, here's SB Event's suggested itinerary of things to do:
- Wake up early at your Redondo Beach Hotel and head to Polly's on the Pier for a delicious, inexpensive breakfast on a dock over the ocean.
- Walk south about a 1/4 mile to the Redondo Beach Pier. There, you can choose from a whale watching or boat tour on the Voyager, a staple vessel that's called King Harbor home for decades.
- Rent a paddleboat for two people, which you can propel around the large marina, checking out seals sunbathing on a buoy or mega yachts at the King Harbor Yacht Club.
- Grab a delicious fresh seafood meal and a cold beer for cheap at Quality Seafood.
- If you have little ones (or even if you don't), stop by the Redondo Fun Factory, a huge arcade with Skee-Ball, air hockey and a teacup ride.
- Finish off your beach day and join the locals with a sunset cocktail (try a Fire Chief if you dare) at Old Tony's, the legendary 360 degree bar above the pier and ocean.
If you have 3 days in Redondo Beach, here's a recommended itinerary:
- Day 1: same as above.
- Day 2: Rent bicycles from Marina Bike Rentals across from the Best Western Hotel on Harbor Drive.
- Hop on the road north til you get to The Strand in Hermosa Beach. From there, the path stays along the beach and stretches 20 miles past Santa Monica. Go as far as the end of Dockweiler, and if you're feeling adventurous, take the somewhat confusing path through Marina del Rey to Venice Beach and the Boardwalk. Note: the bike path bends inland for several miles to navigate around the marina which catches many first-timers by surprise. Make your way back to Redondo in time to return your bike. The roundtrip to Venice is approximately 3 hours not counting the gawking at the "interesting" people on the Boardwalk
- Return to your hotel and shower up, then walk down to Kincaid's, Bluewater Grill or The Chart House for an unforgettable seafood dinner.
- Day 3: If you have a rental car, plan on hopping on to PCH and heading south. The road wraps around to Palos Verdes Blvd., which will bring you into Palos Verdes itself. Hug the cliffside road that wraps around some of the best ocean scenery in Southern California. Go or a hike among the tidepools on the rocky coastline if you have time. Drive all the way to San Pedro, passing the Trump National Golf Course, Terranea Resort, a lighthouse (where you can watch whales up close, depending on the season). There, you can decide to get lunch at the Ports O' Call Village in San Pedro or cross the bridge to Long Beach (Queen Mary, Long Beach Aquarium and much more).
- Days 1-3: same as above
- Day 4: Spend the day hanging out at the beach, shopping in Riviera Village or at the South Bay Galleria.
- Day 5: Plan on driving to one of the many close attractions, including Disneyland, Knott's Berry Farm, Hollywood or Santa Monica, all under 45 minutes away.
