Halloween 2009 in the South Bay

Check out the South Bay Events' full listing of what's going on in the South Bay for Halloween: October 31, 2009!

HALLOWEEN 2009 SCHEDULE OF EVENTS

One of the wildest holidays of the year in the South Bay is back! To add to the craziness this year, Halloween lands on a Saturday in 2009, which will guarantee a full-day celebration in Manhattan, Hermosa and Redondo Beach. If you've never been around the Beach Cities for All Hallow's Eve, you're in for a big surprise. People who normally are conservative let the holiday grab ahold of them and go wild in the adults' playground we call the South Bay.

Whether Halloween South Bayyou want to join your family and trick-or-treat around the neighborhoods (see the City of MB's Safety Tips), or join the mayhem taking placeat local bars and parties, there will be lots to choose from this year. The celebration seems to be starting early this year, with a Halloween Fashion Show taking place on Monday, October 19!Held at Aloha Sharkeez on the Hermosa Beach Pier, the show will be offering up professional models in extremely sexy costumes, drink specials and solid DJs spinning throughout the evening.

As Halloween gets closer, the South Bay has some pretty fun traditions that you just don't find in other communities. Among other family-oriented events, the Skechers World Famous Pumpkin Race takes place on Sunday, October 25. Contestants enter pumpkins to race against each other using any propulsion they can imagine (there are only a few rules), and prizes are given out to the winners. A pretty big crowd shows up and the racing "vehicles" are getting more creative every year.

The Annual Halloween Bash on the Redondo Pier includes games with prizes for all children. Pier businesses will be ready with candy for the trick-or-treaters; a spooky DJ, costume parade and fun “ghoulishly” delightful dancing, and the Redondo Beach Pier Association will be presenting a safe, fun and friendly alternative to door to door travels. For young ghosts, goblins, Tinkerbells, cowboys, and so on, the Redondo Pier is a fun place to show off costumes and enjoy festivities that are planned just for our children to enjoy Halloween. 5pm-8pm.

The City of Manhattan Beach will also be having their 22nd Annual Halloween Family Carnival on Saturday:
COSTUME CONTEST and PARADE- from 1:00 PM to 1:30 PM; Most Original, Scariest Judges Choice
CARNIVAL BOOTHS- 1:45 PM to 4:00 PM ($0.50 to $2.00) The carnival booth games are made by the participants of the Afterschool REC and Teen Center. Tickets required.
1000 PUSH UP CHALLENGE- 2:00 PM to 3:30 PM One of the mission statements of the Parks and Recreation Department is to "Promote Health and Wellness." To help instill that in our participants and promote that philosophy, we would like you to take the challenge and help us reach a goal of 1,000 push ups on the day of the carnival!
TEEN CENTER HAUNTED HOUSE- 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM ($2.00) The haunted house is created and operated by the participants of the Teen Center program (periodic breaks). Requires tickets.
FOOD STAND- 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM ($1.00 to $2.00) Pizza (pepperoni/cheese), water, juice, chips, granola bars, cotton candy and popcorn. Tickets required.
